AMERICA'S CLASSICAL MUSIC
Jeff Lofton's mission is "Jazz to the People." KUT recently noted he's "blazed his own path" in the Austin music scene. In March he was voted Best Jazz Band at the Austin Music Awards for the Austin Chronicle Reader's Poll. The Austin American-Statesman named him in their Out and About 500 2010 list as a "rising music star" for his "articulate advocacy and ubiquitous presence" and his "jumpstart" to the local jazz scene in Austin.
Beyond the usual funding challenges of independent artists, jazz musicians also face the challenge of little institutional support for their art form: from lack of commercial radio airplay to minimal cultural organization structure, like orchestras and operas have, for example. Yet jazz continues to survive, and even thrive, locally, nationally and internationally because of the dedication of jazz musicians and support of jazz fans.
The recent successful CD release of "Chasing the Voodoo Down - Live at the Cactus Cafe" was just the beginning of the process of getting the music out to the public and to radio stations. Your support is needed to help fund the distribution and promotion efforts.
